A paranoid schizophrenic who stamped on and kicked a Preston dad to death has admitted killing him.
Jacob Hill attacked Gary Carlisle as he walked his dog in the Moor Nook area of the city at just after 6am on March 12th last year.
Witnesses described the offender stamping repeatedly on the head of the victim as he lay in the road in a pool of blood.
Armed officers rushed to the scene and confronted Hill as he walked away from the scene of the attack. He was tasered after refusing to comply with officers’ instructions and then handcuffed and put in a police van.
Mr Carlisle, 62, suffered catastrophic head injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, he never recovered from injuries and very sadly died a week later on 19th March.
A Home Office postmortem showed he died as a result of a blunt force head injury.
CCTV shows Hill leaving his home address on Burnslack Road at just before 6am. He is tracked through the estate and can be seen acting erratically, running into the road and blacking the path of a car before climbing into the grounds of Moor Nook Primary School.
At the same time Mr Carlisle is seen walking through the estate from his address with his dog. As he got onto Langden Drive Mr Carlisle is approached by Hill and there is an altercation. Mr Carlisle is seen running with his dog and is chased by Hill who jumps on his back and drags him to the ground.
He is then seen stamping on him more than 10 times. A bus passenger bravely intervened but was headbutted by Hill and suffered a cut to her nose which needed hospital treatment.
Following his arrest and after consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Hill, 32, was charged with Gary Carlisle’s murder.
He was also charged with assault on the woman who intervened in the attack.
Hill appeared at Preston Crown Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility and assault.
He will be sentenced in April.
Det Supt John McNamara said: “This was an absolutely horrendous assault on an entirely innocent man who was simply out walking his dog one morning last Spring, an attack that cost him his life.
“I would like to commend the brave actions of the bus passenger who bravely tried to stop Hill and was sadly injured in this incident.”
“This has been horrendous for Mr Carlisle’s family who have been incredibly dignified throughout. I am pleased that Jacob Hill has admitted his crime, and I hope that the conclusion of these proceedings now allows them the opportunity to move forward.”
