One year to go until the Tour de France arrives in Lancashire

There's just one year to go until the world's top cyclists race through Lancashire and our county is showcased to a global audience.

In 2027, the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift will both begin in the United Kingdom - the first time both Grands Départs have taken place in the same country, outside France.

On Saturday 3 July 2027 Lancashire will be in the spotlight as Stage 2 of the men's Tour de France passes through around 80 miles of the county, including Morecambe, Lancaster, the Forest of Bowland, Clitheroe, Blackburn, Chorley and West Lancashire.

Riders will tackle challenging climbs in the Trough of Bowland and over Rivington, creating a spectacular sporting showcase against the backdrop of Lancashire's stunning countryside.

The event is expected to deliver more than £15million for Lancashire's economy with hotels, restaurants, pubs, cafes and other local businesses benefitting directly from this major international event.

Councillor Stephen Atkinson, Leader of Lancashire County Council, said:  "With just one year to go, we are incredibly excited to start the countdown to the world's greatest cycling race.

"The Tour de France is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to showcase our beautiful county to a global audience and celebrate the communities that make Lancashire such a special place.

"It will bring thousands of visitors to our towns and villages, support local businesses and create an unforgettable experience for residents and visitors alike."
