Blackpool North and Fleetwood MP Lorraine Beavers has vowed to continue to support women who are fighting for compensation over a “pension age injustice”.
WASPI (Women Against State Pension Inequality) women are a campaign group of approximately 3.6 million women born in the 1950s (specifically on or after 6 April 1950 to 5 April 1960) who saw their state pension age raised from 60 to 66 without adequate notice.
They are fighting for compensation, arguing they had little time to rearrange their finances, causing significant financial hardship.
Women from the Fylde coast are among the campaigners.
The MP said in a message to the women today: “WASPI women, I will keep standing with you as you fight for justice.
“I met again with representatives from WASPI – Women Against State Pension Inequality Campaign this morning.
“These meetings help me keep up to date with what’s happening and mean we have the chance to talk about next steps too.
“No big developments to report today but I just wanted to say that I will keep at it. I will always stand with those who have faced injustice and work to amplify your voices in parliament.”
Ministers formally confirmed on January 29, 2026, that they would not be introducing a compensation scheme for 1950s-born women, citing that a blanket scheme was “not justified” and a tailored one was impractical.
Following the January 2026 rejection, WASPI campaigners announced they are preparing for a potential third legal challenge and are consulting with lawyers.
The campaign continues to demand justice for the rapid, poorly communicated increases in their state pension age, arguing many suffered severe financial hardship.
