Chorley Council has been successful in securing an additional £1 million of funding to ensure Brinscall Pool stays fit for the future, enabling work to take place to improve the efficiency of the 100-year-old building.
In addition to the £600,000 already invested into the modernisation of the facility, this money, secured from the governments' Public Sector Decarbonisation Fund, will pay for a roof replacement, installation of solar panels and the removal of gas boilers to make the building more energy efficient and sustainable for future generations to enjoy.
Furthermore, once work has completed, opening hours are set to be extended, increasing access to public swimming and group classes.
Work will be carried out from 8 June for a period of 16 weeks, during which the pool will close, before reopening with extended hours.
Councillor Bev Murray, Executive Member for Early Intervention said, “Securing this additional funding is great news for the future of Brinscall Pool. This much-loved facility deserves to be a part of our community for many years to come, and this work will help to ensure its future sustainability.
“We appreciate that there will be some short-term disruption and that the pool will need to be closed temporarily to allow for work to take place. The summer period is generally quieter as swimming classes, club use and public swim are reduced.
“This funding is great news but has only just been secured, meaning that the work could not be carried out during the last phase of works when the building was closed.
“We are really pleased that we will be able to open across more hours very soon, providing additional opportunities for residents to swim, stay active and take part in classes. We would like to thank users for their patience and really look forward to welcoming everyone back later this year.”
Following completion of the works, the pool will reopen with new hours from 7am to 9.30pm Monday to Friday and at 8am to 3.30pm on Sunday.
Users of the pool will be able to use the facilities at All Seasons Leisure Centre as an alternative and schools, swim lesson customers and hire partners are being contacted to discuss upcoming bookings.
