A nationwide furniture retailer is set to open its first store in Preston, planning documents have revealed.
Chair and sofa specialists HSL have applied for permission to install new signage on a building on the Queens Shopping Park.
The prominent unit – which fronts the A59, where London Road meets Stanley Street – was, until recently, occupied by the Villeroy and Boch bathroom showroom.
The premises are now empty and currently surrounded by scaffolding, seemingly as part of works taking place as part of the change.
Yorkshire-based HSL has been trading for over 55 years and has more than 50 branches across the country, two of which are in Lancashire – in Blackpool and Burnley.
Applying to Preston City Council in its full registered name, High Seat Limited, the firm has sought approval to replace nine signs around the building.
Approval will not be required for the change of use of the site, because both the previous and proposed retail operations are in the same planning category.
Villeroy and Boch had traded from the site for more than six years, following the redevelopment of what had previously been the garden centre element of The Range, which continues to operate next door.
Earlier this year, the retail park saw the opening of a Greggs drive-thru and plans were also approved to build a new fitness facility to be run by The Gym Group. The latter plot had previously been earmarked for the creation of a retail unit since 2018 – but it was never built upon.
