The Blackpool South MP says the government has pledged to fund the first steps in building a world-class arena in the resort.
Last year Blackpool Council asked residents for their views on the future of the Blackpool Central regeneration site.
Chris Webb MP made the case for a new multi-use arena and since then thousands of local residents, local artists and industry experts have had their say.
‘’Today we’ve taken a major step forward to making that vision a reality,’’ said Mr Webb.
‘’After making the case to ministers, I’ve secured £20 million from the government to help fund the first steps in building a world-class arena for Blackpool.
‘This funding will allow us to properly explore whether the project is viable and help put us in the strongest possible position to attract an experienced private-sector partner to develop, operate and programme the venue.
‘’If the evidence shows an arena can succeed, it has the potential to bring major concerts, sporting events, comedy, e-sports and exhibitions to Blackpool, create jobs, support local businesses and strengthen our position as the UK’s entertainment capital.
‘’There is still plenty of work ahead but this £20m is a significant milestone. I’m looking forward to working with Blackpool Council, Blackpool Tourism Ltd, industry partners and local residents to explore this opportunity together.
‘’Together we are building a better Blackpool.’’
