Enhanced policing measures in place ahead of Lytham Festival

Lancashire Police have issued a reminder to partygoers heading to Lytham Festival next week to have fun but stay safe.

The festival, which began as a one-night "Lytham Proms" event in 2010, is once again drawing large crowds to the Fylde Coast with its star-studded line-up.

As excitement builds for this year’s lineup, Lancashire Police are making preparations to keep everyone safe.

Throughout the event, officers will maintain a reassuring, high-visibility presence, supported by specialist units including the Mounted Branch, to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors to the Fylde Coast.

Superintendent James Black, Operations Manager for the Blackpool & Fylde area, said: “We are excited to be supporting another brilliant Lytham Festival and to welcome visitors to our wonderful Fylde Coast.

‘’We have been working hard, alongside partners including Cuffe and Taylor, Fylde Council and other emergency services to ensure this event runs without issue.

“To make this happen, those attending the festival have an important role to play and we have a few reminders to share:

• Do not drive home after the event if you have been drinking– we have officers conducing roadside drug and alcohol tests to help keep Fylde’s roads safe.
• Drink responsibly and know your limits – make sure to also look out for friends who might have had too much to drink.
• Look after your valuables – mobile phones, cameras and wallets can all be stolen in large crowds, so ensure these are safely stored.
• Criminal activity of any type will not be tolerated – we have an increased police presence over the duration of the festival, including officers in plain clothes.”

This year, the event is running from Wednesday 1 July until Sunday 5 July.

Supt Black added: “This festival is all about joy, music, and being together and we’re here to protect that. If at any point you feel unsafe, please come and find us. We’re here to help, and you are never on your own.”

Officers will also be undertaking NightSafe operational activity during the event. NightSafe is designed to ensure everyone can enjoy Lytham’s nighttime economy, free from crime, violence or intimidation.  It involves high visibility patrols at key times, door staff checks and robust licensing visits at busy times with swift enforcement action taken if appropriate, along with use of safety schemes such as Ask for Angela, Street Pastors and Street Angels.
